Lucy’s 9 months old! That seems so big. 9 months of being parents went by a lot faster than 9 months of being pregnant. It is so much more fun too. We have had a great past month. Lucy just seems to be learning so much everyday. As you can see in the picture she finally got the hang of sitting up. Once she finally got it though she’s been great, she can even lean to get things, and get down on her tummy to scoot. At her check up she was 13 pounds, 14.5 ounces and 27.8 inches long. So she’s still growing! She did great at the doctor’s with all the poking and prodding, just sat still and watched. Luckily she didn’t have to get shots this time, just a little poke in her toe which didn’t even faze her. She just spent the rest of the appointment trying to take off the bandaid, she won that battle.
She’s getting better at standing, but still pretty wobbly. I don’t think she’ll be walking anytime soon, which is ok by me. Just means I can have more time to prepare for when she’ll be getting into everything. She has the cutest little wave, and she waves at people quite a bit. She also points and waves her finger as well. It’s basically the cutest thing ever.
Lucy is getting busier and busier. I find myself having to get more creative in ways to occupy her so we both don’t go crazy. She still loves books. She likes us to read them to her, and likes just looking at them herself. She really likes it when I sit her in front of her bookshelf and she can pull them all off. It usually keeps her occupied just long enough that I can take a shower.
She also likes playing with “garbage” like boxes, plastic cups, paper, etc. She likes getting the mail with me because there’s usually some sort of junk envelope I’ll let her play with for a few minutes. She likes to take things out of containers and put them back in. It’s cute to see her thinking as she plays. I got out the flannel board I played with when I was little, she had fun with it for about 5 minutes, and it was a grumpy day for her so that was good.
Lucy has discovered how fun the iPad can be. She draws me pictures, haha. I just turn a drawing app on and then she turns it all around so it draws. I don’t think she even realizes it does anything cool, she just likes to play with what we’re playing with. Lucy also gets so excited when Kenny comes home from work everyday. No matter what she’s doing as soon as she hears the door opening she turns and starts waving her arms and wiggling like crazy. She loves him so much! And so do I, he’s pretty fun.
Lucy sporting another Grandma Mudrow original. I love getting her dressed up for church. I try with the hair accessories, but she won’t have it. I was lucky she even kept it on this long for Kenny to hurry and get a picture. She doesn’t keep her socks on either, so it’s good it’s summer.
Oh sleep, why does it have to be a constant battle? At least the past few weeks she has not wanted to take her naps regularly. Some days she’ll take two good naps, sometimes just one in the middle, or just one in the morning, or like no really good ones at all. So does anyone have suggestions? Luckily though she’s pretty good at night. Everyone once in a while she’ll have a bad night where she’ll be up for 1-2 hours in the middle of the night, usually it’s because she’s teething. But this past week I started training her to go to sleep at night without nursing, and I really shouldn’t say training because we decided to do it, and she’s been totally fine with it. Guess we should have tried sooner.
Lucy’s been teething, she has her two cute teeth on bottom, and two on top – the vampire ones, I don’t know the technical term. So she can bite pretty hard now. She still acts like she’s teething, but I can’t see which teeth would be coming next.
To celebrate Lucy’s 9 months Salt Lake City threw a parade! We had never been to the Days of ’47 parade, but heard people camped out and stuff, which we didn’t want to do, so we figured we’d try just showing up that morning. We got there a little after 8 and had no problem finding a spot. The weather cooperated wonderfully – it was overcast and there was a slight breeze. It was still hot, but definitely a bearable July day.
Before the parade started we were talking about who would be in it from the church. I said I wanted to see President Uchtdorf wearing a cowboy hat. Well, he didn’t wear it, but it was fun to see him! Isn’t he just so nice?
Lucy liked the parade, but other times was indifferent. She liked the marching bands most, she still loves music.
After the parade we went out for sushi downtown at Sapa. Kenny’s been there a bunch for work so he took me. It was so yummy, we were full the rest of the day. Lucy fell asleep as we were walking over and took a good half hour nap. After lunch we went up to Ogden to visit my Oma and Opa. It was great to see them and Lucy loved being the center of attention. She got to play with new toys and quickly became comfortable at their house, she was rolling all over the place. We had a lot of fun celebrating the 24th, since we haven’t really in the past. So grateful for the pioneers – we love the gospel and we love Utah!
We found out that the night before you can go to the South Towne Expo Center and see some of the floats, and it was free. So we went to check them out and voted for our favorites.
And to finish this post here are pictures from our monthly photo shoot. She didn’t want to wear her headband of course. She makes us laugh, we love our Lucy pie so much!
