We had such a fun family vacation. Traveling with kiddos is tiring, but also really fun and rewarding. We took the drive to California in two days. It takes a while when you have to stop to nurse and for potty breaks, but Lucy and Preston both did so good! Preston realized early on that nothing interesting was happening and slept most of the time we were in the car. Luckily we made up for it in fun when we got to Disneyland.
The first thing Lucy did when we got to the hotel was climb into the bed. Preston was pretty happy snuggled up next to her. I love these two cuties!
Then we made the mistake of walking the strip on a Saturday night. The Bellagio fountains did look really cool, and they did one to Billie Jean that was fun. Other than that it was a lot of walking through Babylon. Good thing our kids won’t remember it!
Then we got home and they snuggled on the bed again. What’s cuter than kids in jammies? The next day we drove to California! We went with our friends Russell and Anna, and their kids Jonas, Gwen, and Tess. We went with them more than 10 years ago for our senior trip when we graduated high school. Sure was a lot different trip, but so much fun!
I had to add a throw back photo! We were all just babies. We didn’t even get a picture of the whole group together, but we got a lot of the kids together, and that’s all that matters. We rented a condo that was within walking distance from the park. It was so nice having a kitchen and room for the kids to play.
They randomly select people to go through the metal detectors before entering the park now, so the security lines were really long. Don’t we all look happy? We opted to just push two single strollers which worked out nice. We just parked Lucy’s once we got there and she walked everywhere in the park.
Lucy’s first ride was Alice in Wonderland. She got to go on a lot of rides just her and daddy while I had to feed Preston. She of course loved all the Fantasyland rides.
Preston’s first ride was Snow White, he kind of seemed to like it. He was such a good baby on this trip. If he got tired he just fell asleep in my arms. It was so snuggly and it meant that I still got to go on rides. Guess all our napping cuddles paid off!
Lucy LOVED it’s a small world. I think she went on it 5 times while we were there, which was fine with us. Never a line and air conditioned. It was actually pretty hot when we were there, but it was a nice change from cold, inversion Utah.
Peter Pan was the first character Lucy met. She was talking to him really good and then got scared when we went to take the picture. But after that she really liked meeting all the characters and wanted to meet any that we saw. It was so fun and a first time for us.
Lucy loved being there with Jonas and Gwen. She really attached to Jonas and he is such a good kid, he didn’t seem to get bugged by her always wanting to hold his hand and be around him. She really liked going on Haunted Mansion with him.
Sometimes we like to take pictures of just us to pretend like we were there without kids.
Jonas, Gwen, and Lucy rode in the same row on Winnie the Pooh, it was really cute! This was another ride we went on often because again, no line.
We had fun watching the parades, including the new night time one. Lucy loved the music and getting to see all the characters.
Fried chicken! I was excited because it’s something I never get with Kenny not being able to eat gluten. We love eating well at Disneyland!
And here is proof that Lucy can be worn out! Just takes a whole day of walking around Disneyland. She actually fell asleep most nights when we were walking back, and since this stroller didn’t recline we would just tilt it back the whole way home.
We did used our Magic Morning on Tuesday, which everyone seemed to do because it was really busy. But we managed to take a ride on Dumbo. Preston decided to sit it out since he didn’t know how to breath in the wind very well.
Daddy and Lucy always got to enjoy doing things while I had to go feed Preston, which was fine. Lucy wanted to go on ride after ride.
Then we went to the Princess Fantasy Fair to meet some princesses. Lucy was really upset at first and wanted to go on more rides. I knew she would love it, so I told her if she met the princesses and was happy about it, we’d get ice cream later (which we were already planning on). Lucy loved it! She got so excited going into each room and seeing which princess would be there. She was especially excited about Aurora because she’s pink! She also got to meet Cinderella but we only got video for her. All the princesses were so great at talking with Lucy and relating to her, it was the cutest thing.
Then we went over to California Adventure where she got to meet Minnie and Elsa and Anna. Elsa and Anna were so fun talking to her about her hair and being a big sister, it was so cute.
We met up with the Hansen’s which Lucy was excited for. Waiting for things was a lot more enjoyable with other kids to talk to and play with.
Then we got our much needed, and delicious ice cream. It was pretty warm while we were there. Preston was just in a onesie most of the time. He was pretty happy just to be around family, it didn’t matter what we were doing. He is such a good, happy baby. Lucy was really excited to have a messy face because of this picture of me of the same ice cream from a few years ago:
But all will be happy to know I did not get messy this time! I’m growing up!
We did some more rides, and Lucy loved all of them. Halfway through Heimlich, Gwen got a really bad bloody nose, they had to take the train off and Russell rushed Gwen to the bathroom. Memories!
We went to the Disney Junior show which we had never done before. The kids loved it! It was a really fun and interactive show. At one part they had “gold doubloons” fall from the ceiling. Lucy and Gwen got quite the collection
This is one of my favorite pictures from our trip. I just like how it turned out. Everyone was laughing at Preston because he just stared at Goofy wide-eyed and open mouthed. Which is how he actually stares at everything.
Then we did a few more rides and finished off the night with World of Color. It was a good show, but we really miss the old one.
Lucy does not rest when she does theme parks, so it’s good to have a break in the middle. She’s kind of like us, imagine that. The condo complex we were staying at had a little playground and a pool so we did that for a little bit. The water was freezing, but Lucy and Kenny still had fun. Me and Preston didn’t swim. Then we went to Huntington Beach. I normally am not a huge fan of the beach, I always feel like it’s too windy and a little too cold. But this day was lovely. It made me understand why people like the beach in California. Kenny and Lucy played in the water and looked for seashells. Preston just slept so I just relaxed and cuddled him. The condo we stayed at had a nice beach umbrella, towels, and even camping chairs to take. It was the best!
Lucy started the day off grumpy, which is always fun, so our family castle pic turned out great! Luckily she quickly got over it after a ride on Peter Pan. I love that ride, but it always has a long line so we usually only do it once when we get there first thing when it opens.
See, she got happy, and then she got to meet Ariel, who liked Lucy’s red hair. We let Lucy pick out which souvenir she wanted and she chose these princess Mickey Mouse ears, but don’t call them Mickey Mouse ears, it’s just a princess hat. That might have been why she was grumpy…
There was a spinning tea cup and a non-spinning tea cup. Thanks for joining us Jonas! Lucy is such a thrill seeker.
We headed to Toon Town and I got to take Lucy on her first ride on Gadget’s Go Coaster. She of course loved it, and since the line was short she went on it again right after with Kenny. The Hansen’s let us borrow this cute little Mickey Mouse hat for Preston. It was so cute!
Then we got to wait in line to meet Mickey. It was a long wait and you barely get to even interact with him. Next time I think we’ll just look for him on Main Street, he usually has a line there too, but not as bad as in his house. At least Preston found him interesting.
Sometimes it’s fun to just play around, even when you’re at Disneyland, and that is one thing Toon Town is good for. Lucy liked getting to explore it.
Preston is cute. He really liked Nemo and looking out the window. And trying to eat our hair. It was so fun getting to put him in summer clothes, even though it was snowing back home.
I felt like I spent a lot of time nursing at Disneyland. I’m glad I can do that for Preston, but it was a little hard missing out on things sometimes.
Lucy’s creepy face made a come back for this picture in front of Haunted Mansion. She likes silly scary things.
More Winnie the Pooh pictures, you just can’t beat that line and Lucy loved it!
More cute random pics to end the day. We watched the night parade over by Small World, which was a pretty nice place to watch it. We also got to do a couple of Fantasyland rides before it started. I took Lucy and Preston on Small World while Kenny went and did a ride. Preston fell asleep while we were on it, and Lucy said, “It’s like his noisemaker!” Haha. Glad that’s not what he needs to sleep to at home.
We were all a little sad to start our last day, but we were also getting tired. We got to the park right at the opening and it was not busy at all. We had a good hour in Fantasyland with pretty much no lines.
Look at all the rides Kenny and Lucy got on just during the time that I was feeding Preston. Lucy got to sit up on the bow of Storybook Canal. She loved it!
Then I got to take Lucy on Casey Jr. while Kenny and Preston waited. We made the best monkeys!
Lucy was pretty excited to meet Tinkerbell. Lucy told her that she was an animal fairy and could talk to butterflies.
She kept wanting to meet Chip and Dale, but we seemed to always just see Dale, and she said she would wait until they were both there. Well this day we just saw Chip and she said she was fine to just go meet him, guess Chip must be her favorite. I think this is the cutest picture. Lucy was the last one to meet him before he went on break, and he still took his time with her. I was so impressed by how fun all the characters were. Lucy loved them.
We went over to California Adventure to go on all our favorites again. Lucy loved these big comfy chairs. Kenny got to ride single rider on Screamin’ next to someone who did not seem at all impressed with the ride.
We got this delicious sundae at Ghirardelli. It was rocky road and so yummy! It will definitely be a new tradition for us!
These kiddies are cute! I’m glad we got to take them to Disneyland. Preston won’t remember it, but Lucy totally soaked in all the magic.
Sometimes it’s fun to pretend we’re at Disneyland just us, someday we will go without kids, but really, it’s so fun going with kids too!
Lucy had fun playing at Toon Town again. She loved this part because she loves anything to do with Halloween.
We went and saw Mickey and the Magical Map, Preston slept through about half of it. Lucy loved it, we had to leave during the finale so we wouldn’t miss our dinner reservation…
…But then we ended up having to wait for about 30 minutes anyway. But it was well worth it! We went to the Cafe Orleans to get a gluten-free Monte Cristo sandwich. The fries were also amazing!
Kenny and Lucy went on Haunted Mansion one more time, and got stopped right in front of the hitch-hiking ghosts so Kenny was able to take a long exposure. We finally got to see the fireworks the last day. We watched them from Rivers of America which was actually a great, stress-free place to watch them. Lucy had really wanted to go on Pirates one more time and we had told her she could go after the fireworks. About halfway through the fireworks, Lucy hit her wall. She said, “This is a long show!” And then when Kenny took her to Pirates, she just started melting down in line, so we left. She wanted so hard to push to the end, but she was done, which is ok because we’ll be back again for sure!
